This usually goes hand-in-hand with people reading guides, watching videos, practicing build-orders with one or two "main" civs. Ranked is a different beast because it is filled with people who focus all their energy in the game to beating other players one-on-one. "Comp-stomping" with friends (i.e., playing with friends against AI players) is a time-honoured RTS tradition. Honestly the game is meant to be played however you find it fun. Let's be honest, some of them probably think that about anyone outside the top 20. The fact is, to a top player they could easily say that anyone outside the top 100 players has bad habits. You just understood that when you were a worse player your understanding was less evolved, and there was a continuum of constant improvement and it's hard to pinpoint a single moment when you had 'bad habits', because really you always did and probably still do. While SC2 wasn't my first RTS, or even close to it, it was my first case of taking competitive RTS seriously, and I played from being new to multiplayer to master league, and my experience was you didn't look back and think you learned bad habits. As you improve you'll face better players and have to learn how they play. Learning bad habits from other players isn't really a thing, it's just learning what players at your level do, and those are the players you are going to be facing. And bear in mind that the meta is different at different skill levels. That alone tends to make it better as practice. Players are never predictable, and you never know when you're facing one that is much better, or much worse than the average player you face. I’m not a Conqueror-level player but I know how you feel and these are some of the things I have watched for in my own play style and I feel have really Helped me improve.Īn AI is usually fairly predictable, you kind of know what it can and will do and you feel safe and can be very lazy. Also, using early aggression almost every game gives you an advantage more often than not( (if not an outright victory). For me, learning how to scout consistently has been the biggest advantage. Watching a replay of your own game, whether you won or lost, will help you identify if you make any of these (or other) errors. not scouting, especially early-mid game.gathering too much or a resource you don’t need at the moment.not being aggressive when you had the chance.Watch your replays to pinpoint what you do wrong. Playing ranked is much different than AI or even team games vs other human players. The more ranked games you play the better you’ll get.
